The fruit is a nutritious food used throughout Africa. Locally (Africa), baobab is also known as the cream-of-tart tree and the Ethiopian sour-gourd. Baobab fruit is a light-colored tropical fruit that is encased in a hard gourd-like outer structure. Different parts of the baobab tree are used in traditional African medicine while cultural and religious beliefs often consider the tree as sacred.
