Pertaining to the smell of the root, “ashwa” translates to horse and “gandha” to smell, as the fresh root is said to smell like a ‘wet horse.’ Folklore has it that it was believed that the horse smell was an indication that consuming the root would give a person the power of a horse.* Ashagandha root contains numerous biologically-active compounds which exert health benefits when consumed on a regular basis.
